Time Is Money
Time is Money
By Doug Cutler
You’d hate it if someone stole your money, and you should if they stole your time too. Someone does rob from us every day, and I hope you’ll help put a stop to it !
I’m referring to big phone corporations. Their theft is small each time, so they’re hoping you’ll sit back quietly and let them continue to get away with it. As part of their answering service (they give it to you “free” and I’ll show you why), they let you record your greeting, then they play theirs – and theirs rambles on and on. I tried to get rid of it, (I will not waste or steal my friends’ time), but the corporations won’t let you.
In researching “why not?”, I found out they determined the average voice message call is about 45 seconds. So what? They bill in 60 second increments. So anything up to 60 seconds is one minute. From 61-120 seconds is two minutes. Darn, so close to being able to push you into the next minute bracket, if only we could stretch your call for about 15-20 seconds more… bingo. Put in our non-removable greeting at 15-20 seconds and that extra minute, averaged over millions of calls, can really add up. Your business suffers, because if I don’t reach you I’m going to hang up. Now it’s really starting to cost you, not just a trivial few cents, but real customers.
So how do you fight back?
Here’s a technology that’s FREE, takes about two minutes to implement, and has a multitude of extras to boot. It’s called Youmail.com. Here’s what it does: Incoming calls are routed seamlessly to their server, it picks up transmission data and responds with “ Hello ( callers name), (your name) is not available, please leave a message”. This is about 5 seconds. Callers are impressed that my fancy system knows their name. I would have been happy with only that much, but now, not only do I get a digital message I can retrieve with my phone, without an annoying PIN, but it sends a link to my computer as well.
Here’s why this is beneficial. Let’s say it’s a VIP sales message – you want to forward it for processing, maybe you need to double check it for accuracy, or possibly brag over it. Forward it on and as many people as you want can hear the message exactly ( it might be some jerk that blessed you out and you’d like friends to, umm, appreciate how big a jerk he really is too) as it went down. You can even have a custom greeting for every one of your friends. Now try that with the cell phone company’s product.
Just log on to Youmail.com now & get set up ( I’m not affiliated in any way). We both benefit, the only loser is the big corporation. Our next topic will be another way to keep from getting ripped off without even knowing it, and how you can fight back.
